How Star@Work Works Star@Work is far more than a training program. It is a performance enhancement process attuned to the needs and priorities of knowledge workers. It begins with knowledge workers who have the required technical competence and cognitive abilities to do their jobs. They then develop skills in the nine work strategiesby Kelleys researchdifferentiate top performers. These strategies are: Star@Work: High-Performance Strategies for Knowledge WorkersSM is composed of four full-day sessions. Participants come from a single organization and complete the sessions as a group. Additional Program Details Star@Work provides abundant opportunities for participants to clarify their thinking on productivity issues, formulate their own goals, and ultimately reach the higher level of performance they seek. A key ingredient to Star@Work is the interaction of the participants in the group sessions. Together they learn and apply the strategies that have improved the productivity of hundreds of top performers, then add their unique ideas and insights. This synergy of information and personal experience helps them develop as individuals and as a group. Pre-Session Work Beyond the group development sessions, participants also engage in a variety of job-related homework assignments. They read background material, complete detailed checklists, and conduct interviews that help them adapt the behaviors of top performers to their own working style. Feedback, Self-Assessment and Goal-Setting Feedback is a key part of the program. Participants receive feedback on their overall performance and use of the work strategies from a variety of sources, such as their managers, customers, and peers, to gain a balanced and accurate view of strengths and areas for improvement. For each work strategy, participants complete a checklist analysis, comparing their approach to the best practices used by star performers. This self-assessment, along with the feedback they receive during the program, help participants create personal development plans, including specific goals and strategies they can put to use immediately to build productivity and boost performance. Sample Checklist Checklists like this one are used by participants to analyze and improve their performance. Team Task Force Each session involves a discussion linked to knowledge worker excellence and group work in the team task force exercise, which is a group project focusing on an organizational issue selected by senior management. The team task force project enables participants to immediately apply the work strategies to a real business issue.
